Established in 2010, we've grown from a few staff and borrowed machines into a full manufacturing operation.
Lightning Kitchens was established in 2010. We started off small with just a few staff and borrowed machines. Since then, we have grown to a beamsaw which can cut 8 boards at once, 2 edgebanders and 3 CNC drilling machines. Besides solid wood and wrapped components, we can directly supply almost anything you require, and what we do not do, we can source for you.
We have an assembly department where units such as drawer and corner units are fully assembled as this is part of our standards. We do not send these units out in cut and edge or even flat-pack, since we need to know that runners are running smoothly and corner components are assembled correctly. We also do this for custom modular units, shopfitting components and units with pre-drilled LED channeling.
We also have a cleaning department which many other kitchen / cut and edge companies lack. Here our components are cleaned, quality checked, wrapped and labelled in order to dispatch. We do not simply load your job and let you go — a dispatch officer ticks off on paperwork to ensure that everything is there.
With 3 people in our office who can do designs, we also supply this service in order to give you a visual idea of what your job will look like. Essentially, you either send us drawings and/or measurements, or we set up an appointment to go to site and take the measurements ourselves. Once the design is finalised, we do a cutting list and proceed to quote.
We have found that clients do not mind paying more, as long as they see the value of what they are buying. Unlike other companies who have a set price list per carcass, we do not — because we sell rooms, not just cabinets. If you pay a set price off a price list and your kitchen, for example, has 20 cabinets, you will end up paying way more than you should. Instead, we optimise all cabinets together and base the price on the total bill of quantities, minimising waste so that you, the client, get the real benefit.
Most suppliers' price lists are based on a worst-case scenario for them, and you end up paying more because they have thumb-sucked a price to benefit them only. If we have an accurate bill of quantities, we are able to quote you a fair price which will benefit both parties. We use an optimiser during this process to ensure that we do not waste board and consequently you have to pay more. We also supply various options like letting you purchase the hardware yourself to avoid a markup, involving you with what offcuts remain on the job, and many smaller things which make customer service so much more detailed and personal.
